Solving the Surface Puzzle
The X-Caddis was designed for the most critical moment of a hatch: the emergence. By omitting the traditional hackle and utilizing a trailing shuck of Z-Lon, the fly sits low in the surface film, perfectly mimicking a struggling pupa unable to shed its casing. This vulnerability is exactly what triggers the largest trout in the stream.
Field Observations
Target the eddies and slack water directly downstream of major hatch activity. Trout will often move into these safety zones to gorge on spent or struggling adults. Fish the X-Caddis with a dead-drift approach, but don't be afraid to give it a minute twitch just as it leaves the film.
